Jeep Grand Cherokee Performance
This 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee review begins with the Grand Cherokee’s array of engine variants to suit any driver. The base engine is a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. There’s also a 5.7-liter V-8 that produces 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque, and the 6.2-liter V-8 that produces 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque, mated to an advanced eight-speed transmission. The 6.2-liter V-8 is exclusively available for the Trackhawk model and also includes an adaptive suspension, a specialized all-wheel drive system, and enhanced performance tires. Nearly all models are available in rear-wheel or four-wheel drive.
Like other Jeep models, all the Grand Cherokee trim levels are capable of rugged off-roading and all-weather performance. With its many powertrain options, the Grand Cherokee is available in many configurations to suit your recreational purposes, but all models offer light, precise steering, smooth-shifting transmissions, and effective brakes.
The Grand Cherokee is also a heavy-duty hauler. With the four-wheel drive, V-8 configuration and proper equipment, the Grand Cherokee can tow up to 7,200 pounds. The V-6 configurations tow a little less, but the two-wheel drive options can tow more. Such towing capacity is unmatched in this segment.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Interior
The Jeep Grand Cherokee interior offers plenty of head- and legroom, comfortable, supportive seating, and a well-designed instrument cluster. The materials are durable, high-quality and easy to clean for convenience. The door openings are well-shaped and large, allowing easy entry and exit, and the adjustable air suspension can be lowered easily for less mobile passengers.
With the rear seats up, there’s 36.3 cubic feet of cargo space, and with the seats folded, the cargo bay opens up to a full 68.3 cubic feet of cargo space. Throughout the cabin, there are small storage areas for smaller item storage as well.
Technology in the Jeep Grand Cherokee
The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee includes the Uconnect infotainment system, which is one of the best on the market, as well as intuitive audio and navigation controls and Bluetooth connectivity. There’s also a premium, nine-speaker sound system as an available upgrade.
Many modern advanced safety features are also optional for the Grand Cherokee, including forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and rear or front parking sensors.
