To help you know what your vehicle is trying to tell you when a light flashes on your dashboard, our team here at Peake Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram FIAT made this helpful Jeep dashboard light guide.
Various Jeep Dashboard Symbols
When a light illuminates on the dashboard of your Jeep, your car may either be telling you a system is currently engaged or warning you that there is an issue within your Jeep that needs your attention. Here are some common Jeep dashboard lights.
Oil Pressure Light: This light that looks like an old oil can symbolizes low oil pressure. If you see this, you will want to immediately check your oil to examine its level and condition. If you are low on oil, you will want to have your oil changed and the vehicle inspected for any possible leaks.
Anti-Lock Brake System Light: When you see the letters “ABS” surrounded by a circle on your dashboard, your car is trying to tell you there is an issue with the anti-lock braking system. You will want to have this checked as soon as possible since the ABS prevents your wheels from locking up while braking.
Tire Pressure Light: When your tires aren’t properly inflated, the tire pressure warning light will flash on to let you know that one or multiple tires need more air. You will want to check the pressure of each tire and add air to the ones that need it. If this light comes back on, you may have a leak and will want to see if you need to replace your tires.
Check Engine Light: This light signifies that there is a problem within your vehicle’s engine. Since the problem involves the engine and the light can come on for many different reasons, it is advised to have your car serviced immediately to have the issue diagnosed and resolved.
Battery Light: This dashboard light comes on when there is either an issue with the charging system or electrical system. With an icon as a battery, this light may mean you need to change your battery or the alternator needs to be replaced. Having your car serviced will allow a technician to figure out what the issue is and make sure all the electrical connections are secure.
4WD Light: If your Jeep is equipped with a 4-wheel drive system, you may see a light come on that is telling you that your 4WD system needs to be serviced. To keep your Jeep driving with optimal traction, you will want to have this problem fixed as soon as possible.
